5 steps to introduce balance into your life: start every day happy.

The word ‘anxiety’ to a millennial is like the word ‘itchy chin’ to an echo boomer, mention it and you’ll spot a glint of familiarity in their eye. If they don’t experience it themselves, I’ll bet you a long island ice-tea and a fancy dinner that they know someone who does.

Anxiety is almost as normal as brushing our teeth for many of us; we encounter it almost every single day of the week. Our brains tick over faster than a chicken can cross a busy road as we adventure through a thousand super crazy scenarios. That is until we work ourselves up to the brink of a panic attack.

How to start every day happy:

1. Rise and Shine

Every morning your alarm goes off and you are immediately reminded that you need to get out of bed – this is always a struggle, at least it is for me.

I’d be a serial snoozer if I had my way, I’m sure most of you can relate. Hitting that snooze button is far too enticing, but we’re doing ourselves no favours. Who knew that those extra few minutes of sleep could actually leave you feeling worse.

2. Awaken your senses

Wake yourself up, rehydrate your body and jumpstart your metabolism with a glass of lemon water.

If you’re a compulsive worrier, you’ll be glad to hear that lemon water has a high potassium content – a lack of is often linked to anxiety and depression, so it can help to curb anxiousness throughout the day.

3. Shake it off!

Empower yourself by channelling your inner Taylor Swift and jumping straight into a morning workout.

You don’t have to run a marathon – a quick 20 minutes of exercise will make for an all-round better day.

If you’re stuck for what to do, Pinterest has lots of quick, easy workouts you can try or if you’re feeling brave, head outside for a morning jog – getting some fresh air in the morning really gets your body ready for the day.

Exercise can help to reduce stress and helps you to start the day with a clear mind. Doesn’t that sound great?

4. Shower

Because there isn’t anything much better.

5. Eat your heart out.

It’s essential to give your body some energy within a few hours of starting your day. Without breakfast you’re effectively running on empty – hungry people get upset, they get irritable and they get hangry. It is so important to eat breakfast and if you don’t have the time, why not check out my quick and easy recipes here.
