Welcome to The Happiness Journal and welcome the super talented Rebecca from the beauty and lifestyle blog, Rebecca Jayne.

Hey Beck, let’s start with an introduction.

My name is Rebecca (Beck) I’m doing a degree in Accounting and Finance at the University of Liverpool and I’ve created a beauty and lifestyle blog under the name Rebecca Jayne.

What food makes you smile?

I don’t think a particular food makes me smile, I mean who doesn’t love a family roast dinner, but it’s more of the smell of certain foods that are homely that make me smile if that makes sense.

When are you at your happiest?

I’m probably at my happiest when I don’t have anything to worry about, when my head is just calm rather than clouded with stuff, I feel at peace and that makes me happy.

How do you feel when you see blue skies?

When I see blue skies I feel positive it’s a reminder of summer and having time to spend with family and friends.

Tell me about a time you really belly laughed?

Okay, so in my family we all have this one really old black and white film that we all love and there’s a bit in it where a guy falls down and has like a lamp in his hand, it’s iconic to the film really. And my uncle bought little lantern looking candle holders for me because I like candles and I was sat in the living room minding my own business, mum walks in, lies on the floor with one of these lantern things, crying in laughter says ‘who I am’. It was just so random of her it was so funny

If you were an animal what you would be and why?

If I was an animal I’d straight up be a sloth, they’re chill and have no life worries just hang around all day. My type of day.

What gets you up in the morning?

My alarm gets me up in the morning.. erm if I’m looking forward to the day like plans or talking to someone then I will quite happily jump out of bed if not I have to be nagged and have about 5 alarms to get me up. It’s like a day to day thing.

What’s your feel good movie and song?

Feel good movie… breakfast club I want to say. It’s a classic, love that film. Song.. probably any classic mates play when we’ve had a drink, so the likes of Mr Brightside or Country Roads. Definite feel good songs.

Do you have something your really treasure? Tell me about it.

I have two things that I treasure, both to do with my Grandad actually, I honestly like worshipped the ground he walked on, such an amazing man. When I think of my Grandad I think of those chains that guys wear, and I’ve bought one for myself and I will not take it off, it’s like a connection to him. Also in my family we say a feather is a sign of those that have passed and I was at my Nan’s and there was a white feather and she said ‘oh Terry’s here’ that was my Grandad’s name and I kept that feather. This is going back like 3 years. I still have that feather.

What’s your favourite childhood memory?

Childhood memory.. I’ve got so many good ones because I grew up with a girl that is still my best friend today so there’s like 15 years worth of memories to choose from. We tried to slide down her stairs on her mattress once.. the mattress stuck and we fell… erm I got dared to eat baking powder and I honestly ran around my kitchen, ready to throw up looking for a drink. It was so funny. Anytime one of us does something stupid is just a good time to me!

Tell me about a person who means a lot to you?

My mum means a lot to me, stereotypical answer I know, but that woman is honestly my hero. Single mother, two loud kids, she’s fought a horrible disease. Still has a smile on her face every day and her kids (not to blow my own trumpet) have been so successful achieved so much, down to her guidance and support. She’s such a giving and lovely woman. I adore her.

What is that one special thing, event or experience that makes you happy when you think about it?

Happiest moment of my life was doing race for life. If you’ve done it you’ll know what I mean by the atmosphere there and the immense sense of love and support everyone has. It’s honestly an amazing experience and I had such a good day. Can’t fault that day or that memory.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

My guilty pleasure Is probably being in bed, Malibu and coke and like a piece of cake or something (on a diet ish atm, got food on the brain). But like being in my own bubble, I always love my own company and getting some time to myself is my guilty pleasure.

Where is your happy place?

My happy place is Southport, England. It’s just a childhood place that I associate with so many good memories. Even now If I’m feeling down I will honestly drive up to Southport. I just relax when I’m there. It’s bliss.

What does happiness mean to you?

Happiness to me is when everything is settled. When things fall into place, when a problem is resolved, seeing a friend after a long time, laughing with someone. The lightheartedness of a situation will make me happy.

Show me a picture that makes you smile.

That’s my uncle! He’s honestly been like a dad to me and anytime I see him I’m so so happy. So this picture just sums that up. It’s happiness in a picture.

Tell me about a time that someone did something for you that really made you smile.

My mum paid for my car insurance, like she paid and I gave her the money back just so I didn’t have to pay interest on insurance payments. I nearly cried when she offered. She didn’t have to do that. I could have paid for it monthly myself it’s just the thoughtfulness behind it. Always comes to mind as something someone did that I’m really grateful for and that makes me happy.

What’s your favourite quote about happiness?

My favourite quote about happiness is ‘Happiness is Expensive’ because it’s not. It’s really not expensive to be happy. That quote just makes me laugh tbh.

And just before you leave, if you had to give advice about achieving happiness, what would it be?

My advice to anyone about being happy would be that you’re in charge of your own happiness. You decide what path your life goes on, you decide who you want in your life, you’re in charge. If you’re in a situation that doesn’t make you happy then don’t be in that situation. This links back to the quote I guess because everyone has an excuse or a reason to not do something like it’s sooo difficult. It’s not. You’re in charge. You have the keys to your own happiness. Yes other people can make you happy, cherish those people. But they don’t dictate your happiness. Remember that!
